The City desires to improve roadway safety in its jurisdiction, and identify the tools needed to strengthen the community's approach to roadway safety. The City needs to balance the need for economic growth, and the resulting increase of motorists and individuals traveling in and around the City, with the safety of all roadway users. The goal is to develop low-cost, high-impact safety strategies that can improve overall safety in the jurisdiction. The City will utilize SS4A funds to hire a consultant to perform the work of developing the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. The consultant will work with stakeholders within the community and City to develop the Action Plan, which include a safety analysis, an assessment of current policies and plans, and a detailed strategy and implementation process that will address the safety concerns of the City. The planning process will engage a wide variety of public and private stakeholders, including an inclusive community engagement process. The Action Plan will include evidence-based strategies and projects will seek to adopt innovative strategies and best practices to promote safety and equity. The result will be a publicly available Action Plan that the City will use to pursue next-step funding to implement the strategies contained in the Action Plan, including an SS4A Implementation Grant. The Action Plan will provide a framework of innovative strategies and implementation actions intended to reduce transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries while also supporting federal safety initiatives as well as identify safety issues and specific actions that can be implemented to improve safety for people traveling by any mode throughout the region. The plan will address federal and state regulations, including performance management goals, measures, and targets, and will promote equitable outcomes.
