The Haskett Branch of the Anaheim Public Library is working on designing a MakerSpace and Media Lab where residents can have the opportunity to be creative, collaborative, and ensure lifelong learning. The MakerSpace will provide designing and manufacturing tools for the Anaheim community; the Media Lab will offer a space to record music, create videos and podcasts, and digitalize photos, videos, and sound recordings. These state-of-the art spaces will offer residents a learning experience while connecting them to a professional industry. In particular, the spaces will help meet the need for learning experiences with an emphasis in connecting to career paths and professional industries, preserving and sharing of stories with families and their communities; stories that provide a glimpse of those that make up our communities. This project will provide equipment, tools, services, and resources to help individuals meet their technical, archiving, and digital skills. Through community conversations and research, the community has expressed the need for intergenerational programs that build community, provide opportunities to learn new skills, and have a space to contribute and feel valued. This project is included in the City of Anaheim's FY 2023-2024 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Per the owner, as of March 20, 2024, a design team has been selected. The owner states that the project is anticipated to advertise for bids before the end of the fiscal year (June 30, 2024). *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
