Site work for a bridge / tunnel in Rock, Michigan. Design plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel.
As of June 21, 2024, an engineer has been selected for the project. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) Forest Resources Division (FRD) is requesting professional engineering services for the design and construction of a culvert replacement on the North Deadhorse Road over the Deadhorse Creek. The Deadhorse Creek is a Type 1 Designated Trout Stream and a tributary of the Rapid River, located NE of Rock in Delta County. There are currently two existing undersized culverts in this location. The main culvert is undersized and perched and the second culvert acts as an overflow for the main culvert. The MDNR FRD is proposing to replace the two undersized culverts with a larger culvert or box culvert as recommended by the PSC based on budget and lifespan. The DNR has a local barrow pit located near the project site and a gravel stockpile to be utilized during construction. At this time, it is not anticipated that the new culvert structure will require inspection by an MDOT bridge inspector prior to opening for use but if the sizing becomes great enough during design to be classified as a bridge the PSC shall assist in transmittal of contract documents, submittals, as-builts, and any other requested documents to the MDOT bridge unit. The MDNR would like to minimize the time that the road is closed, and requests that the PSC consider construction sequencing and diversion/bypass requirements in the design. The project is all state land in the project vicinity and the road can be closed on both sides of the project. There is one private camp that utilizes Deadhorse Road for access, but they have alternate access from the north. 3/6/2024 at 12:00 PM via e-mail to Jeff Barsch, barschj@michigan.gov. Project is to be designed/permitted during summer of 2024, bid in fall of 2024 with construction in spring/summer of 2025. Interested firms must email Jeff Barsch at barschj@michigan.gov no later than February 27, 2024, to request a meeting invite.
