This program presents in summary, the requirements for the preparation of design and construction documents and estimates for the replacement of two boilers within the Central Heating Plant #2 at the University of Kentucky. The program is prepared as a basis for understanding and agreement within the university and as a definitive statement to the Consultant engaged in the design of the project. The Central Heating Plant #2 currently houses two natural gas/fuel oil boilers and two coal boilers along with auxiliary equipment. This project will consist of the removal of the two coal boilers and the installation of one new natural gas/fuel oil fired boiler (100kpph+) along with other necessary plant equipment. Design of new gas boiler installation should include leaving space for a future boiler of similar capacity. The existing natural gas boilers will be expected to remain in service for the duration of the project, with exception for minimal outages as needed. Project may consist of but is not limited to: 1. Removal of two coal boilers and necessary coal boiler equipment such as coal handling equipment, boiler fans, etc. 2. Infill pits below the coal boilers. 3. Installation of new natural gas boiler with fuel oil backup. This will require an exterior wall to be removed during construction and then replaced with consideration for future boiler installation. 4. Replacement of the two existing DA tanks on the coal side of the plant with a single new DA that can support a +/-300,000 lb/hr plant steam load. 5. Replacement of the existing water softener system with a new system that can supply 600 gpm of soft water continuously to all boilers.
