Saving Project...

Renovation of a municipal facility in Denver, Colorado. Completed plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.

Date Email Questions Due 03/13/2024 5:00 PM MT. During recent construction/utility work at street level, the concrete cap over a vaulted utility room below grade was penetrated. The condition of the existing concrete cap, adjacent barrel vaulted ceilings, and masonry walls of the room and surrounding tunnel were investigated. While the overall condition and structural integrity of the masonry wall and ceiling are stable, some notable cracks in the masonry, missing masonry, staining and paint failure is evidence of water infiltration. The water infiltration has caused electrical outlets to be abandoned and needs to be addressed to curtail further damage to the structure. This project consists of replacing the structural lid of the tunnel vault to the south of the State Capitol building below the sidewalk. The concrete lid replacement includes waterproofing to protect against water infiltration and enough strength to carry the loads of firetrucks and construction cranes above. The masonry walls contain some notable cracks, missing masonry, staining, and paint failure due to water infiltration and are to be repaired. The Work of Project is defined by the Contract Documents and consists a complete and operational installation, including all tools, equipment, means and methods, rigging, shoring, etc. of the following: 1. Protection of existing masonry construction from damage during demolition and construction activities. 2. Demolition of sidewalk surfaces above south tunnel and vault areas. 3. Excavation of earth above and around south tunnel and vault areas. 4. Evaluate existing brick walls and replace or reinforce with concrete footings and columns. 5. Demolition of concrete lid of south tunnel and vault above stone masonry side walls. 6. Repair damaged stone masonry, including cracks, missing masonry units, missing mortar, staining, paint failure, and other damages to stone masonry. 7. Exterior waterproofing of masonry side walls. 8. Replacement of concrete lid with new 8 reinforced, structural concrete lid, waterproofing, and 4 concrete topping slab. 10. Backfill with compacted engineered fill and replace demolished sidewalk surfaces inkind to match adjacent existing.
