The City of Columbia, SC (City) owns and operates the Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant (MWWTP), managed by the City Utilities and Engineering Department. The Department collects wastewater from approximately 63,000 approved connections located along approximately 1,100 miles of pipeline both inside the City limits and in portions of both Richland and Lexington Counties. The City's Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant is located at 1200 Simmon Tree Lane. It has a rated capacity of 60 million gallons per day (mgd) and currently treats an average of 42 mgd of wastewater. The wastewater entering the plant is treated using the following processes: flow equalization and metering, screening and grit removal, primary and secondary clarification, activated sludge, return and waste activated sludge pumping, dissolved air flotation sludge co-thickening (primary and waste activated sludge), anaerobic digestion, solids handling and dewatering, chlorination and dechlorination. Project: The overall planning, permitting, financing, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and environmental monitoring services associated with the facilities installed for the beneficial use of produced biogas. In addition, the Project includes marketing, sale, and distribution of the full market value of the gas, including all environmental attributes, tax credits, and tax incentives. The Developer is required to undertake, perform, and complete all required planning, permitting, design and construction of Biogas Upgrading Facilities using professional engineers and construction Contractors licensed to practice in the state of South Carolina.
