Renovation of an educational facility in Tacoma, Washington. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 28,010-square-foot, three-story above grade educational facility.
Tacoma Public Schools is requesting qualifications from firms interested in providing Design/Build (D/B) services related to the McKinley Swing School (MSS) HVAC Upgrades project. The alternate Public Works contracting procedure authorized in RCW 39.10.300 through 39.10.330 will be utilized for this project. This project will utilize the Progressive Design/Build (PDB) delivery method. Firms with previous PDB experience or experience using a similar alternative construction delivery format are encouraged to apply. During the project, the Design/Builder will receive overall direction from designated representatives for the Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) Planning & Construction Office and will work collaboratively as a member of a team to achieve project objectives. In addition to TPS staff, the District's team will include the Design/Build Advisory and PM/CM Consultant (Parametrix). MSS is located in southeast Tacoma near the intersection of East 38th Street and East McKinley Avenue. The original MSS is a 3-story, 28010sf masonry building constructed in 1908. It also includes a 25,412sf wood-framed addition that was constructed in 1957. Questions Due Date: Mar 18th 2024, 2:00 PM PDT This project will be to upgrade the building's HVAC from a steam-based boiler system to a modern system that will meet current code and upgrade the electrical system to support the upgraded HVAC system. MSS will remain fully occupied and operational during construction.
