Site work for a water / sewer project in Lakewood, Washington. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

Well K- 3 Project A new well building encompassing the wellhead would be installed with electrical, control, power and chlorination equipment. BACKGROUND: In 2016, Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) notified Lakewood Water District (LWD) of the discovery of perfluorinated compounds (PFAS) in a few drinking water wells on the base. These compounds present health risks especially to infants and pregnant and nursing women. Consequently, JBLM chose to turn off their contaminated wells and install treatment facilities to remove the PFAS. LWD began a program of testing and monitoring for PFAS and discovered that PFAS contaminants have migrated off JBLM and contaminated 12 of LWD's wells. 2016, Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) notified Lakewood Water District (LWD) of the discovery of perfluorinated compounds (PFAS) in a few drinking water wells on the base. LWD began a program of testing and monitoring for PFAS and discovered that PFAS contaminants have migrated off JBLM and contaminated 12 of LWD's wells. Four wells are currently contaminated at levels that require them to be turned off, resulting in the loss of about 4.5 million gallons per day (MGD) of water supply. This project involves the facilities design of well (K-3 - Lake Avenue). This new well is expected to deliver about 1,500 gallons per minute or about 2.0 MGD of new uncontaminated water, partially offsetting supplies lost due to PFAS contamination. The existing Wells are housed in a wood framed building above a large open-bottom concrete vault covering a spring from which water is pumped into the District's Zone Four wells are currently contaminated at levels that require them to be turned off, resulting in the loss of about 4.5 million gallons per day (MGD) of water supply.
