Reference Number 0000345144 The Middletown Public Schools ('MPS') Capital Improvement Program (the 'Program') shall transform the Middletown Public Schools into 21st century learning facilities for the educational community for generations to come. A portion of the program includes the demolition of Gaudet Middle School following the construction of a new Middle High School. The new Middle High School will be located on the current Gaudet Middle School site located at 1113 Aquidneck Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842. There are also interior renovations planned to the existing Middletown High School located at 130 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842 and Forest Avenue Elementary School located at 315 Forest Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842; as well as general maintenance, health and safety and select education enhancements to Aquidneck Elementary School located at 70 Reservoir Road, Middletown, RI 02842. The ) Forest Avenue Elementary School Middletown Public Schools plans to do a minor renovation of the Forest Avenue Elementary School to house elementary grades PK through 1. Built in 1957 and expanded in 1994, the building is 40,571 GSF and serves Grades K through 3. The building layout is iL-shapedi with the classrooms in wings at each end and shared programs such as the gym, cafeteria, library, administration, and main entrance located in the knuckle. The original one-story building is constructed of a structural steel frame supporting steel channelroof beams with a structural tongue-and-groove plank roof deck. This construction complies with the Rhode Island State Building Code as Type 2B non-combustible construction. The cafeteria is constructed with steel columns and laminated wood roof bents supporting solid wood purlins and a structural tongue-and-groove plank roof deck. The cafetorium complies with the Rhode Island State Building Code as Type 3B mixed construction. The two-story 1994 addition is constructed of load-bearing concrete masonry unit iCMUi walls, fireproofed open web steel joists supporting an elevated concrete / metal deck second floor, and open steel roof trusses supporting a metal roof deck. This construction complies with the Rhode Island State Building Code as Type 2A noncombustible construction. The building is a mixed-use occupancy consisting mainly of Education iEi use and Assembly iA-3i use for the cafeteria, gymnasium, and library. The building does not have a fire-suppression system. C) Aquidneck Elementary School Middletown Public Schools plans to perform general maintenance, health and safety and select education enhancements to Aquidneck Elementary School located at 70 Reservoir Road, Middletown, RI 02842. Built in 1954 with additions in 1955 and 1994, the building is 43,591 GSF and serves Grades Pre-K through 3. The original building is constructed of a structural steel frame supporting a steel roof structure with a poured gypsum roof deck. The 1955 addition is constructed of loadbearing masonry walls supporting a precast concrete hollow-core plank roof, which was subsequently added onto in 1994 and is now the second floor. The 1994 addition is constructed of load-bearing light gage metal framed exterior walls and load-bearing masonry corridor walls supporting steel gable roof trusses and metal roof deck. The construction of the facility complies with the Rhode Island State Building Code as Type 2B non-combustible construction. The building is a mixed-use occupancy consisting mainly of Education iEi use and Assembly iA-3i use for the cafeteria, gymnasium, and media center.
