As of March 14, 2025, projects are underway in all the schools. During its Dec. 9 meeting, the DD2 Board of Trustees approved additions to Summerville Elementary School, Summerville High School and Ashley Ridge High School. Regarding the latter, there is some back-and-forth between the county and the developer, according to the committee’s discussion. The developer does not have to convey the property until finalization, so the county is trying to negotiate access upon preliminary approval. Construction documents are also being prepared for renovations at Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary School, Knightsville Elementary School and Oakbrook elementary and middle schools. Members discussed project prioritization at the board facilities committee meeting, with the lowest-graded roofs and exterior walls being targeted first. Additionally, there was a discussion about hosting a groundbreaking for one of the projects. The Dorchester School District Two (DD2) Board of Trustees has approved a special election on May 14, 2024. The board seeks to implement a sustainable long-term plan to address facility needs, alleviate overcrowding, enhance teacher-to-student ratios and revitalize aging schools. This bond referendum will enable the district to complete much-needed repairs of some of their oldest schools while at the same time building new structures to house the growing student population. The most noteworthy feature of this referendum is that it will have a zero tax/millage rate impact on the community. Recognizing the inadequacy of current capital facility funding to address these challenges, the district proposes a $200 million bond referendum.
