Saving Project...

Site work for a civil project in Edmonton, Alberta. Completed plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and road / highway.

Bigstone Cree Nation is seeking contractors to submit tenders for Road and culvert construction for the OPK Durain Trail Access Road Project. The site was located near the new OPK School within the Bigstone Cree Nation. The proposed new access road is to extend west off Gabriel Drive across an existing wetland and connect to the north side of Auger Lane, immediately north of the OPK School. The proposed roundabout access road is to be located on the south side of the existing roundabout for the existing school, as shown on Figure 2. The general topography along the proposed access road was relatively flat with a wetland located about 35 m west of Gabriel Drive (Photograph 1). The wetland area was heavily treed, and a mulched access path had been cleared on either side of the wetland by the client prior to drilling (Photographs 1, 2 and 3). The proposed roundabout access was within the existing school yard. At the time of the investigation, the existing roundabout was paved. The proposed roundabout access was relatively flat and covered in short grass (Photograph 4). The access road location was bordered by Gabriel Drive to the east, the new OPK School to the west, and dense trees to the north and south. ParklandGEO was commissioned to carry out a geotechnical investigation at the site to provide geotechnical parameters and design and construction recommendations for the proposed access roads. It is understood that the new access road will connect the existing Auger Lane with Gabriel Drive and will be gravel surfaced, with the potential for future paving. This report summarizes results of the field and laboratory testing programs and presents construction recommendations. It should be noted that this investigation did not include the existing wetland. It is recommended that ParklandGEO complete a separate investigation within the wetland to delineate the extent of organic soil and provide recommendations for embankment construction on soft soils, if required. The contractor shall provide a proposed construction schedule. Bigstone requires the project to start no earlier than June 1, 2024, and completion of construction no later than end of August 2024. This is to accommodate the regular end and start of the school year. Official bid documents must be obtained from www.merx.com and bid submissions must be done through the Merx platform.
