The Rural Municipality of Woodlands intends to develop a largely unused greenspace between the hamlet of Woodlands and Provincial Highway #6 into an accessible, educational space which can be used by local students, seniors, and community members. Features will include an edible garden, a meditation and healing garden, historical components such as a tallgrass prairie and railbed garden, a central courtyard, and outdoor recreation equipment. Trees will be planted throughout in honour of past and present community leaders, with a self-guided digital tour option. TIMLEINE: An RFP for engineering services has been awarded. The selected consultant will be required to consult with the Municipality's Park150 Committee and to provide the Municipality with a comprehensive plan for the development of the Park150, including: 1. A conceptual design 2. Construction plans for each phase 3. A landscape design detailing the plant species and structures 4. A vegetation maintenance plan 5. A cost estimate for the project as a whole, broken down by phases The consultant will work with the Park150 Committee to develop a vision for the park that will help contribute to a vibrant community through diverse opportunities for informal gathering, support community events, create a connection for walking and cycling, and provide amenities for passive and active year-round use. The design should also contribute to enhancing biodiversity and improving ecosystem viability while being mindful of accessibility and landscape resilience strategies. It is anticipated that the design portion of the project will unfold through the following phases: a) Phase 1: Preparation, Analysis, and Preliminary Park Design; b) Phase 2: Public Engagement and Revised Park Design; c) Phase 3: Final Design Development and Working Drawings; and Tendering and contract administration will be completed by the Municipality. *Budget is undefined.
