CADOT - Construct Minor Concrete Slope Protection This NOA is based upon the information provided by the Applicant. Project details are summarized in the following table. The purpose of this Project is to reinforce 7 locations where ephemeral drainage channels intersect State Route 168 at road sags and to prevent further undercutting of roads and soil erosion during storm events. Caltrans will install underground concrete retaining structures and the original channel contour and grade will be maintained to prevent any ponding or accumulation of water. Temporary impacts to WOS will result from construction access. Permanent impacts to WOS will result from the underground concrete structures being installed in the upstream and downstream shoulders (see Enclosure 2). The project is limited to the reinforcement of 10 locations along State Route 168 where an unnamed ephemeral drainage crosses the road. The goal of the Project is to prevent further undercutting of the roadway and reduce soil erosion during large storm events. The Project includes, 1) grading of sediment and storm debris from the channels beds to improve flow and accommodate the gabion structures, 2) excavation of the 3-foot by 3-foot by 6-foot area of the streambed adjacent to the existing pavement for placement of rock filled gabions, 3) installation of several 3-foot by 3-foot rock filled gabions constructed of polyethylene or PVC coated mesh, wrapped in rock slope protection geotextile, fabric (Class 8) and topped with a three-inch thick concrete, 4) construction of concreted shoulders adjacent to the existing Edge of Pavement (10 -feet to 25-feet wide), and 5) placement of native material, excavated for installation of gabions, on the downstream side of the ephemeral channel, or 6) installation on concreted rock slop protection that is anchored into the native wash material. The Project locations will be accessed from the paved roadway. Project equipment will include a backhoe, roller, compactor, loader, dump trucks, grader, concrete trucks and concrete pumps.
