Site work and new construction of a fitness / recreation center in Bakersville, North Carolina. Completed plans call for the construction of a fitness / recreation center; and for site work for a fitness / recreation center.
Construction of the Mitchell County Indoor Recreation Center. The requirements of NCGS 143-128.2 regarding minority business participation guidelines shall apply. The successful bidder shall fully comply with the requirements of Article 2, Chapter 64, North Carolina General Statutes (E-Verify) and assent to compliance therewith in writing before executing the construction contract. No bid will be considered unless it at the time of delivery of the bid to Mitchell County it is accompanied with a bid bond in an amount of at least 5 percent of the bid amount or by cash or certified check in that amount as required by NCGS 143-129(b). A copy of an acceptable Bid Bond is included in in the Construction Documents. Before the contract will be awarded to the successful bidder it must furnish a performance bond and a payment bond in the amount of one hundred percent (100%) of the construction contract amount executed by one or more surety companies legally authorized to do business in North Carolina. Mitchell County requests Bidders and sureties to use AIA Document A312-2010 Performance Bond and AIA Document 312-2010 Payment Bond for bonding purposes. The Project consists of erecting a pre-engineered, prefabricated steel building on a prepared, compacted and leveled pad located at 47 Crimson Laurel Circle containing a gymnasium surrounded by an indoor walking track on the eastern portion of the building and an adjoining area containing exercise rooms, restrooms, locker rooms, storage rooms, laundry room, concession stands, equipment room and hallways. The dimensions of the gymnasium are 76 feet in width and 110 feet in length and the dimensions of the remaining portion of the structure is 68 feet in width and 70 feet in length. The location of the building site, prepared pad, with building location is shown on a survey plat prepared by Mountaineer Land Surveying, P.A. dated January 23, 2024 and recorded in the office of Mitchell County Register of Deeds in Plat Book 5 at page 185. The Building found-ation will consist of shallow concrete foundations with allowable net bearing pressure up to 3,000 pounds per square foot and the installation of a concrete slab floor on the existing pad. Installation of utilities will require the disturbance of portion of the filled and compacted areas. Portions disturbed must be refilled and compacted to at least 98 percent maximum dry density obtained in accordance with ASTM Specification D-698 Standard Proctor Method and capped to existing pad level with 4 to 6 inches of stone, NCDOT NO. 57 or equivalent. A draft of the proposed contract is also available on the Mitchell County Website as part of the Construction Documents. From the execution of the Construction Contract until the final completion of the work the Contractor shall be responsible for site safety, site security and for site erosion control. Site as used in this paragraph includes all the area shown on the Site Map included in the Bid Documents displayed on the Mitchell County website and referenced above. The Project will also include interior partitions, flooring, doors interior finishing, plumbing, lighting, heating and cooling fixtures and lines, outdoor ground level HVAC units, sports equipment and fixtures including backboards and scoreboards, fire alarms, panel boards sprinkler system, power and technology wiring and infrastructure. Mitchell County expects a contract to be agreed upon and executed by it and the successful bidder by May 20, 2024 and construction to begin by July 15, 2024 with a substantial completion date of July 15, 2025.
