The Harbour View Gardens property is located at 547 McKay Street, Prince Rupert. BC Housing is planning to redevelop the property. In anticipation for the Phase 1 redevelopment, a portion of the property (outlined in red in the image below) is slated for demolition and site preparation. It contains 8 buildings and surrounding area as described below: eight (8) buildings located at 1400 Kootenay Avenue, 1414-1424 Kootenay Avenue, 559-573 McKay Street, 577-583 McKay Street, 585-595 McKay Street, 597-603 McKay Street, 605-615 McKay Street, and 617-627 McKay Street; and adjacent parking, yard, and playground areas; The Contractor shall demolish, remove and dispose of all buildings and private infrastructure complete with the abatement, removal and disposal of all hazardous materials. 8 two-story buildings to be deconstructed and removed. Typically, the structures are wood frame with concrete shallow foundations, slab on grade, and asphalt shingle roofs. The M’akola building (1400 Kootenay Avenue, building 2) will remain occupied as long as possible and therefore will need to remain in service and accessible until is demolished. Building 2 shall be demolished last. The Contractor shall coordinate with McElhanney, BC Housing and M’akola to prepare a plan to vacate the building. The existing path that runs between buildings 2 and 3 is regularly and heavily used by pedestrians. Award is subject to final approval.
