Demolition, site work and new construction of an educational facility in Richmond, Virginia. Completed plans call for the demolition of a educational facility; for the construction of a educational facility; and for site work for a educational facility.
Direct any questions, concerning the Project Manual and Drawings in writing through the Questions function in ProcureWare The Work consists of construction of a new elementary school replacing an aging, campus-style schools on the same site. This school is a same-site replacement and construction will occur while students occupy their existing buildings. It is not anticipated that portable classroom units will be required for the Work. Upon completion of the new school, demolition of the existing facilities will occur to facilitate final site work. The new building will be a two-story building. The main use of the building will be education and assembly. Construction will be type I-B, fully sprinklered with a non-separated mixed occupancy. The primary structural frame will use masonry bearing walls where available but will consist mainly of steel post and beam construction. The building will be 34'-0" tall. Inside, classrooms will feature one toilet room per class, with lavatories installed within each classroom, directly outside of the toilet room. Larger public-use toilets will be available on the public corridor. Interior finishes will consist generally of brick, block, and painted drywall. Glazed wall tile will be used for wet locations. Ceilings will primarily feature lay-in type acoustical ceiling panels to create a favorable acoustical environment. Where tall ceilings or public spaces exist, wood or other decorative ceilings may also be used. Exterior materials will consist of brick, metal panel, metal composite panel (MCM), terra cotta, and similar material. Glazing will be insulated glazing units set in thermally broken aluminum storefront or curtain wall material. Spandrel panels or metal panels within the storefront or curtainwall systems will be insulated. The roof will consist of black EPDM and will be designed to hold solar photovoltaic panels. The schools will have an elementary-sized gym with a high roof to allow for sports and physical education. Joining the gym and the cafeteria will be a performance platform that will be able to open from either end, creating a flexible performance space. Per Henrico County standards, it is expected that this project will achieve a minimum LEED rating of Silver. The project is located at 8801 Nesslewood Drive, Richmond, VA 23229.
