Washington County Engineering Request for Quotation: Pearre Road Bridge - Stone Masonry Repairs Questions deadline: 4/26/24 at 4:00 PM SCOPE OF WORK 1. SUMMARY: Pearre Road bridge over Sideling Hill Creek, Bridge # W-0211, is located on the border between Washington County and Allegany County in the southwestern most corner of Washington County. The bridge is a three-span, simple-span steel girder-floor beam-stringer bridge. The superstructure consists of two riveted steel girders with floor beams and stringers supporting an open grid steel deck. The substructure consists of stone masonry abutments, wingwalls, and 2 piers with reinforced concrete caps. The backwall of the north and south stone masonry abutments near the open grid steel deck have loose and missing stones and loose and missing mortar pointing that have caused sink holes in the road adjacent to the deck. This quotation shall include providing repairs to the stonework on the bridge backwalls. All applicable mortar material specifications shall be submitted to the County for review and acceptance prior to the start of work. 2. DESCRIPTION: A. The south abutment backwall phase of the work involves stone masonry repairs and repointing stone masonry mortar joints. The contractor shall provide and erect scaffolding or other measures to support the backwall repairs. It will be necessary to create an area behind the stone masonry for flowable fill. As the masonry is built up, approximately 1 to 2 lifts of flowable fill is placed behind masonry stones. B. The north abutment backwall phase of the work involves repointing stone masonry mortar joints. The contractor will provide and erect scaffolding or other measures to support the repairs. C. The contractor shall provide the manpower for unbolting and bolting the open grid steel deck panels adjacent to each abutment backwall (Note: All tools will be provided by Washington County). D. Work provided by Washington County: Traffic control including all signs/devices and work to close the road will be provided by Washington County personnel. Washington County personnel will remove and replace asphalt and approach fill as necessary for the contractor to gain access to the abutment backwalls. Washington County will fill the removed approach fillspace behind the back wall with lifts of flowable fill. Lifting, removal, and resetting of bridge deck panels will be the responsibility of Washington County.
