Project: Building 62 Laboratory and Office Space Rehabilitation 2.0 Location: U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Plant Protection Quarantine (PPQ), Center for Plant, Health, Science and Technology (CPHST), 13601 Old Cutler Rd, Coral Gables, FL 33158 3.0 Background: Currently, PPQ's Science &Technology (S&T) Treatment and Inspection Methods Laboratory (TIML) occupies laboratory space in the Agriculture Research Service's (ARS) Subtropical Horticultural Research Station in Miami, FL, through a revocable permit issued in July 2020. ARS informed APHIS that they (ARS) were increasing staffing levels. Thus, PPQ would need to vacate the space currently used as a chemistry lab in Building 89. ARS identified potential replacement space for PPQ's use in Building 62. Building 62 is a single-story building that was constructed in the 1960s. The building is approximately 3,046 SF and is roughly 60 years old. Building 62 previously housed staff offices and laboratories but was later abandoned by ARS. The building has been vacant for more than 10 years and requires extensive renovations to make it habitable and operationally viable for TIML's functions. All mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems have been abandoned and/or removed. Thus, the building needs a complete overhaul to become code compliant. Renovation of Building 62 will provide office and laboratory space for five or six scientists. A lead and asbestos survey were conducted on July 19, 2017, by Durbin Environmental to identify any asbestos containing materials (ACM) or lead paint that needed abatement. Building 62 was found to have some ACM. The Contractor shall begin performance within 10 calendar days and complete it within 365 calendar days after receiving *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document. The estimated magnitude of this project is between $1 million and $5 million.
