This project will be the design of an intersection improvement from stop sign control to a single lane roundabout at Mills Road and Center Ridge Road. A roundabout will improve safety and mitigate traffic congestion from the population boom in Lorain County. As a multimodal project, it will have pedestrian connectivity and support heavy bicycle traffic, since this intersection is within the US Bike Route System (#30). Also, this intersection will be the gateway to Westlake from Lorain County for employment opportunities in Westlake and access to the destination shopping district of “Crocker Park”. Benefits of a roundabout will be showcased, being safer, greener with a reduced carbon footprint and more efficient then a standardized intersection. It will help promote additional roundabout improvements on the west side of Cleveland with this being the third roundabout along the Mills Road corridor (Route #83 and Route #611). As of May 6, 2024, this project is included in the City of Westlake's Fiscal Year 2024-2028 CIP and funding is allotted for FY 2025. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
