The City of Alexandria is soliciting sealed proposals from qualified architecture and engineering firms to develop an iconic design for the West Alexandria Transit Center (Transit Center), at the new West End development (formerly Landmark Mall), that can easily be adapted for other West End Transit Centers in the City - essentially creating a West End Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) brand. The main work products will be the development of three (3) concepts at a 15-20% design level for the Transit Center that can work within the site constraints and the advancement of one of those concepts to 100% design for construction to start in summer of 2027. The design will be integrated into the redevelopment of the former Landmark Mall site, now known as West End Alexandria, a mixed-use development including retail, multi-family, townhomes, medical office and the new INOVA hospital campus. The new Transit Center construction will need to be phased with adjacent construction project sites while maintaining operations at the interim Transit Center.
