“The owner has selected River City Construction as their Construction Manager for the project. A timeline for construction has not yet been established.” The Social Sciences Building (SSB) on the North Campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis consists of a four-story classroom building and a thirteen-story faculty office tower, both originally constructed in 1968. The current project is the third phase of a plan to modernize and expand the facility to accommodate the College of Education and the Honors College, which are being relocated from their current facilities on South Campus. Prior enabling projects include a four- story elevator addition which is nearing completion, and demolition of the thirteen-story tower and connector which is currently out for bid with work expected to be completed this summer. The $23.6M GMP will construct a new 34,000 square foot addition east of the existing classroom building, will renovate approximately 23,000 square feet of the existing building primarily on Levels 2 and 3, and will replace existing infrastructure including boilers, air handlers, fire alarm system, and standpipes. Program elements include classrooms, faculty and administrator offices, a multipurpose event space, conference and meeting rooms, and open study and collaboration space. Site work, footings, and foundations for the addition will begin in August as soon as the tower demolition is complete. Renovations will begin in November for completion ahead of the Fall 2025 semester, and the building addition will continue through the end of the year for completion ahead of the Spring 2026 semester This project shall have a Supplier Diversity participation goal of 25% Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), 10% Women Business Enterprise (WBE)//Disadvantage Business Enterprise (DBE), and a 3% Veteran/Service-Disabled Veteran (SDVE) of the GMP.
