DeKalb County School District is requesting qualified vendors to submit proposals to provide system upgrades to the Fernbank Science Center Planetarium. Question Deadline 05/17/2024 at 12:00 PM ET DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is seeking proposals for a comprehensive full dome planetarium system upgrade that aligns with modern educational standards, enhances science communication, and provides engaging entertainment experiences. The upgraded system should cater to both formal and informal science education audiences, delivering immersive shows that foster meaningful experiences in science and concentrated STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) or STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) fields. The project aims to procure state-ofthe-art technology capable of meeting evolving demands in science visualization and exceeding graphical standards expected by today's audiences. The system upgrade encompasses projectors with a minimum capacity of 8K resolution, computer clusters/operator console, software, and controls, all seamlessly integrated with the current Chroma Cove lighting system and sound system. The current system at Fernbank Science Center is SciDome. The components of the system upgrade shall at a minimum meet the specifications and posses the capabilities listed below1. Hardware and Software: o Provide a combination of high-quality software and hardware specifically tailored for astronomy applications, education, and entertainment experiences. o Deliver robust equipment designed for professional applications, ensuring longevity and reliability. o Ensure ease of use with a user-friendly interface, facilitating seamless operation by staff members. o Offer superior graphical performance with server-class products, meeting or exceeding industry standards. o Provide tools for science education and outreach covering various scientific topics, including Astronomy, Earth sciences, Life Science, Physical Science, STEM/STEAM, and real-time datasets. o Ensure future upgradeability to accommodate evolving technological advancements. o Offer specialist expertise to optimize system performance and ensure optimal functionality. o Ten (10) projectors meeting the following specifications/capabilities at a minimum: i. Resolution: 8k (4096 x 2160) ii. Brightness Per Projector: 36,500 ISO, 32,500 ANSI iii. Contrast Ratio: 2,000:1 or 5,000:1 using high contrast lenses iv. Light Source Type: RGB Laser v. Lamp Life in Hours: 20,000 hours to 50% output. 2. Digital Content o Provide a diverse range of digital content, including images, audio, video, 3D models, full dome shows, vignettes, and scripts, to enhance presentations. o Offer access to a catalog of full dome shows covering various topics. o Provide conversion options of current show catalog to a minimum of 8K compatibility. 3. Software Features: o Ensure intuitive navigation controls and easily accessible information pages for user convenience.
