Site work for a mixed-use development in Hay River, Northwest Territories. Working plans call for site work for a power facility; and road / highway.
Fort Providence-Kakisa Transmission Line (FPKTL). This project is for a transmission line to provide hydroelectric power from the existing Taltson hydroelectric system, starting at the junction of Highways 2 and 5, to the communities of Fort Providence and Kakisa, as well as the Dory Point area. Fort Providence to Hay River 72kV and 25kV Interconnection Project (FPKTL Project) is designed to interconnect the communities of Fort Providence, Dory Point, and Kakisa to the existing Taltson transmission grid. The FPKTL project comprises of the following: 1. A new 72kV switching station at Fort Smith highway junction. 2. A new 72kV transmission line from the highway-2/highway-5 junction (point A) to Kakisa junction (point C). The proposed line follows highway-2 in southward direction to Enterprise, then follows highway-1 in the northwest direction to Kakisa junction (total length of 116 km). Between Fort Smith junction (point A) to Pellet Mill (point B), the 72 kV line will also consider 36 km of 25 kV underbuilt line and neutral. 3. A new 72/25 kV substation at Kakisa junction. 4. A new 25kV distribution line from Kakisa junction to Fort Providence (length of 54km). Crossing of the Mackenzie River will be achieved with insulated cables installed in a rack under the Deh Cho bridge. Overhead to cable transition structures (riser structures) will be installed at the intersections of overhead line and the insulated cables. 5. The existing single-phase 7.2kV line between Dory Point and Kakisa junction is to be replaced with a new 25kV line. 6. A new 25/4.16 kV step-down transformer at Fort Providence. 7. A new Dory Point 25/2.4 kV step-down transformer. TIMELINE: Design is ongoing. Further tender and construction timeline is undetermined. Further update in fall 2025, upon budget approvals
