The Hale Street/Mellichamp Drainage Improvements Project includes excavation of new ditch in drainage easement, removal of piping, vegetation, and debris. Grading and hydroseed of disturbed ground. The Town of James Island requires: #1 The excavation and clearing of vegetation and debris from an existing drainage easement approximately 800’ long from Hale Street to a County-maintained box off Mellichamp Drive. #2 All trees and underbrush to be removed from the easement including stumps to prevent intrusion into the new ditch and aid in future maintenance. #3 A portion (about 280’) of this easement includes a buried drainage pipe and structures to be removed. #4 All trees, vegetation, structures, and debris are to be removed. #5 Establish new drainage ditch at appropriate elevations to maintain flow to Hale Street. #6 Remove any excess dirt not used as fill that is required to be excavated to establish the stormwater flow. #7 Grade and seed all surrounding disturbed property. The Town of James Island will have the easement limits marked using Charleston County survey data. The Town will communicate with residents to remove any easement encroachments and inform them of the project.
