The Town of Darien is seeking bids for bituminous concrete paving, and other work that may be necessary in preparation for paving on selected Town roads and other areas for the period of July 1, 2024 through June 30.2025. Each bid must be accompanied by a bid bond in the amount of 5% of the total bid price. BITUMINOUS CONCRETE PAVEMENT Scope of Work: Work includes furnishing, transporting and placing by machine and manually, bituminous concrete base course, leveling course, and wearing course on public roads, or other locations as ordered by the Department of Public Works. Incidental hand work such as placing and compacting material in potholes, around catch basins, manholes and curbs as well as grading and feathering edges is also included. This item also includes the placement of temporary ramps at driveways or other locations where, in the opinion of the Town's inspectors, there is a need to provide safe access until the permanent handwork is completed. ACK COAT Scope of Work Work shall consist of application of bituminous tack coat in accordance with the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Roads, Bridges, and Incidental Construction, Form 816, 2004, Section 4.06.04.7, to all horizontal surfaces immediately prior to installation of asphalt. Tack Coat shall be applied to a mechanically swept, clean, sound surface to form strong bond between existing and new asphalt. Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supplies, materials and supervision necessary to complete the work as specified on a timely basis. MILLING Scope of Work Work shall consist of cold plane milling gutters, keyways, around and up to structures. Work under this item includes loading millings into contractor trucks and disposal of millings. Contractor shall be responsible for mobilizing and demobilizing equipment to and from sites. Contractor shall be responsible for painting & protecting protruding structures following milling operations and shall make area safe for vehicular traffic including cones, warning lights, warning signs, asphalt ramping or other means necessary in order to protect the public. Contractor shall include in cost of work under this item all fuel, machinery, manpower, equipment, and safety apparatus necessary to provide a clean hard durable surface for which tack coat and asphalt can be installed. Contractor shall perform all sweeping with mechanical and hand brooms. Milling operation shall preserve existing drainage patterns and prevent the need for driveway apron rehabilitation following paving operations. Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supplies, materials and supervision necessary to complete the work as specified on a timely basis.
