The addition is new construction and will house 64 beds, common space, new kitchen and dining areas, new laundry facility and all other required space defined in the 2015 Ministry of LTC Design Guidelines. The existing RHAs will be maintained and remain in operation throughout the construction phase. Some upgrades are planned for the existing Dining Rooms and Serveries. Some servicing will need to be routed through the existing building to service the addition. A Phasing Plan will be necessary in order to ensure minimal disruption. The 64 new beds will be located in two distinct RHAs - one per floor, each consisting of 32 beds. Each of the two 32 bed RHAs will be designed to create two distinct bedroom wings of 16 beds each that will have their own dedicated lounge spaces. A central 'common' core will house shared areas such as dining, program/activity, spa, staff and other spaces for the 32 residents. The development also includes a new kitchen and new laundry, as the existing facilities are not large enough to serve the additional demands of 64 new beds. The existing facilities will continue to operate as normal until the addition is complete and occupied by residents. The existing Gathering Place (lounge area) will be expanded to better serve the increased resident population.
