Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Pella, Iowa. Conceptual plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field; sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.

The budget includes $670,710 of improvements to the city's existing soccer complex, which include repairs to the irrigations system and field renovation. In FY 25-26, preliminary plans include paving the parking lot and entrance drive. The overall project budget is $1,259,185. Before this project is authorized, staff recommends evaluating building new soccer fields at the Pella Sports Park (estimated cost $2.8 million) versus renovating the current complex. It is important to note, if the University Street and Baseline Drive extensions are completed, the Pella Sports Park may be a better long-term option for soccer fields. This would also allow the current complex to be redeveloped for another compatible use, such as housing. Finally, staff would like to mention the Pella Soccer Club will be playing at the Pella Sports Park for calendar year 2024; therefore, as a long-term strategy is developed for the city's soccer fields, we will likely need to address the short-term issues for the club and city soccer programs. The project is include in the city's 2024-2025 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
