Site work for a transportation facility in Montreal, Quebec. Conceptual plans call for site work for a transportation facility.
Construction of surface tramway lines serving the east of Montreal and offering additional public transport options. The scope of work includes the installation of a surface tramway along the lines of Maurice-Duplessis and Lacordaire-Dickson boulevards as well as Sherbrooke Street East and Highway 40, between the Rivière-des-Prairies and Repentigny sectors. Overall, the project would have 31 stations over a 38 kilometer route. The total value of the project amounts to $18.6 billion including $6.7 billion of construction cost. The completed preliminary sdudies estimate ridership during the morning peak period at 29,800 passengers, by 2036. Notes: - The project will replace the REM de l'Est light-rail project construction previously planned by the CDPQ Infra, a subsidiary of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. - The tram will be developed by Quebec's new transport agency, Mobilité Infra Québec (MIQ), becoming its first project. However, the region's public transit authority, Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM), will oversee the initial phases of the project. TIMELINE: The project is preliminary. The owner, Regional Metropolitan Transport Authority, has presented its final report to the Government of Quebec and the scope of the project was approved. Start of the project development is anticipated in the fall 2025 when MIQ will take over from the ARTM when the agency is completely established and running.
