The City of Maplewood is the recipient of a Shade Tree Bonding Grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR) in the amount of $450,000. This grant was obtained to help the City remove diseased ash trees within the public rights-of-way and parks and replace them with a variety of climate adaptive tree species. In addition to the removal and replacement of these public ash trees, this contract includes three years of tree maintenance to ensure successful establishment of the replacement trees. The cost of this three year tree maintenance plan is not part of the MN DNR Shade Tree Bonding Grant funding. Costs for this 3-year tree maintenance plan are being paid for by the City. For the purposes of bidding, there are three bid items as noted below. Clearing and Grubbing by the Lump Sum Install Deciduous Tree, #15 Container by the Lump Sum 3-Year Tree Maintenance Plan by the Lump Sum It is the intent of this project to remove and replace as many public ash trees as is possible within the awarded grant amount. As part of the bid, the Contractor shall specify the number of trees they are able to remove and replace within the $450,000 grant amount. In determining which Contractor to award the contract to, the City will be looking for the overall lowest unit price per tree, calculated by adding $450,000 to the 3-year tree maintenance plan cost and dividing that sum by the number of trees the Contractor specifies can be removed and replaced. The project is to begin on or about July 15, 2024, and be completed by November 15, 2024. All bids must be accompanied by a certified check or bid bond, payable to the City of Maplewood, Minnesota, in an amount equal to five percent (5%) of the total bid, conditioned that if the bidder is the successful bidder, they will enter into a contract in accordance with said bid and will furnish such performance bonds as are specified. No bidder may withdraw their bid for at least 90 days after the scheduled closing time for the receipt of bids, without the consent of the owner. The City of Maplewood reserves the right to reject any or all bids. The City of Maplewood also reserves the right to waive any minor irregularities and deviations; however, any bid which contains a material variance from plans and specifications will be rejected. A material variance is one that gives a bidder a substantial benefit or advantage not enjoyed by other bidders.
