This Engineer's Design Report is for FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) Project No. 3-48-0031-056-2021 at Brownsville South Island International Airport. This project consisted of the design and bidding for the Runway 18/36 (approximately 6,000 ft x 150 ft), the connector Taxiway A, B (two locations), D (two locations), and F to the outboard side of the hold short markings. This design and bid project was broken into three schedules of work with Schedule I only being bid. The design and bidding for the Reconstruction of Runway 18/36- Schedule I will be completed under AIP 3-48-0031-056-2021. Construction of this project will be covered under a separate AIP Project No. 3-48-0031-060-2024. The project limits include Runway 18/36 from the approach end of Runway 36 to station 29+00 which is approximately 1,900 ft x 150 ft and connector Taxiways B and F to the outboard side of the hold short markings. The proposed reconstruction will consist of removing the existing pavement section, excavating out for the new pavement section, constructing the proposed pavement section with subbase, base course, and bituminous asphalt pavement or cement concrete pavement. The project will also include the installation of drainage infrastructure, such as underdrains and updating the existing runway edge lighting and signage, and striping.
