The project boundaries encompass the heart of the Central Business District within the City of Galveston, potentially from Harborside to Church Street, extending from 27th Street to 14th Street, depending on final bids. Key objectives include: Promoting and encouraging alternative forms of transportation, including bicycles, buses, trolleys, and overall pedestrian mobility. Enhancing and encouraging pedestrian connectivity from the Strand to Church Street and from Downtown to the University of Texas Medical Branch. Implementing streetscape improvements, including bike lanes, public transit stop enhancements, drainage enhancements (including bioswales or other stormwater detention devices), lighting, landscaping, trolley track switch repairs. Incorporating protective measures from the environment, such as transit stop structures that provide temporary shelter during heavy rain and shade for pedestrians during hot weather. Installing wake break devices to inhibit automobile-created wakes from penetrating Downtown building envelopes during floods and providing rest areas for pedestrians on dry days City of Galveston reserves the right to reject any and all Request for Proposals and waive any and all formalities and conditions.
