Water actively leaks into the building at the arched masonry but tresses and sloped skylights located on the west side of the library along Washington Street. Six(6) masonry piers extend from the exterior at grade to the interior lower level of the building, which houses the Children's Library. Five (5) sloped skylights span between the piers. The masonry and skylights a re part of the addition and renovation that was completed in the mid-1990's. Deterioration of the masonry is visible on the exterior, and efflorescence at the brick buttresses is visible on the interior. Mortar and sealant repairs have been made over the years. The overall goal is to stop water infiltration into the building which is damaging the shelving, library materials and flooring below. With the expectation that the work shall begin in August 2024, the work shall be completed before the end of October 2024. ADD ALTERNATE 1:There are five (5) damaged sections of white sheet metal fascia at the front edge of the sloped windows, between the six (6) masonry piers. The sheet metal has been dented, damaged, stained and weathered. ADD ALTERNATE 1 shall be the in-kind replacement of these sheet metal sections.
