As of November 20, 2024, Richfield voters passed an $80 million plan that includes $45 million plan for a community center, $26 million for a Woodlake Nature Center facility, and $9 million for pool improvements at Veterans Park. Included in the plan is a new $26 million “accessible and modern” Wood Lake Nature Center. Replacing a deteriorating building, the new energy-efficient nature center would allow for expanded exhibits and displays, hands-on learning spaces, and more. Construction could begin about a year from now. Wood Lake Nature Center needs a complete re-build as its current building is 50- years old and is falling into disrepair. The new building will be sustainably designed and will be able to meet the demands and needs from across the community and region into the future. The project is included in the City's 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program. As of November 20, 2024, the city is working with a design team and negotiating construction services with a contractor. The estimated project timeline for Wood Lake is 2025-2026.
