Site work and paving for a road / highway in Lynchburg, Virginia. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.
As of November 13, 2024, a short list of firms has been identified. Award under evaluation. The project is a City-administered Smart Scale project with Federal/VDOT/City of Lynchburg funding that will include improvements to the intersection of US Route 501 (Lynchburg Expressway) and US Route 221 (Lakeside Drive), as well as the adjacent approaches, to alleviate traffic congestion as growth continues to expand in the surrounding area. Following consideration of a range of design alternatives, the City chose to proceed with the Split Intersection (i.e. One-Way Pair) Alternative that would split two-way traffic on existing US 501 into one-way traffic on two separate roadways, the southbound section to follow along the existing US 501 corridor and the northbound direction to be situated along a new alignment approximately 0.51 miles in length. This solution is intended to create two separate intersections, each carrying less traffic than the original, that would simplify the signal phasing and reduce delays at each intersection. The Estimated Project Cost is $ 66,800,000. DBE/SWaM Goal: The DBE goal for this contract is 10%. All requests for clarification of or questions regarding this RFP must be made in writing and be received by 2:00 PM on August 1, 2024.
