This project provides for the on-going capital improvements and replacement of 5 wading pools, repairs, and improvements to 4 splash pools and 14 spraygrounds operating in parks across the City. As funding allows, wading pools are being replaced with spraygrounds. Wading pools are anticipated to be replaced in the next three years with spraygrounds. Spraygrounds extend hours and period of operation while alleviating the need for onsite wading pool staff. Council approved ARPA funds have accelerated wading pool replacement. ARPA funds also provide for required associated accessibility and adjacent playground improvements in conjunction with the wading pool replacements. The wading pool replacement schedule is currently the Stone and Burke wading pool and playground replacement projects in FY23-24 and the Sayers and Jordan wading pool and playground replacement projects in FY24-25, and the Ashfield wading pool and playground replacement will occur in FY25-26. Additionally, major repairs are necessary to the popular inventory of existing splash and spraygrounds, currently funded major repairs include Columbus Park, Greenwood Park and MLK Jr. Park as well as improvements and major repairs to several existing sprayground sites. This project is included in the city’s fy 2024-2027 Capital Improvement Program. As of June 17, 2024, further details regarding firm construction and completion have not been released. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
