The District uses digester gas produced from the anaerobic digestion process at the South Shore Water Reclamation Facility (SSWRF) in engine generators and boilers to produce electricity and heat. Excess compressed digester gas is stored in two, 49-foot diameter, painted steel spheres until needed. The general scope of services for this contract includes conducting ultrasonic thickness measurements and a survey of the condition of the digester gas storage spheres, their associated structural components, and piping. The scope includes a summary report detailing the condition of the gas spheres, suggested corrective actions to fix deficiencies identified in the survey, and a comparison of the status of the spheres with that from the previous 2007 and 2018 assessments.
