The project is located at Business US Highway 75 and includes the construction of a southbound left turn lane and a northbound right turn lane on Business US Highway 75. A new street for future developments east of Business US Highway 75 approximately 1,100 feet south of 41st Street with grading, storm sewer, and water main will also be included with the project. The project is located on the north side of Hwy 75 southeast of the intersection of Hwy 75 and 41 st Street in Sioux City, Iowa. At the time of drilling the surface material in Borings B1 and B2 in the Hwy 75 turn lane area consisted of a 6-inch to 12-inch gravel layer and the surface material in Borings B3 and B4 in the proposed street area consisted of a harvested agricultural field. The site for the turn lanes was relatively flat with less than a foot of elevation change between Borings B1 and B2 and the site for the street was relatively flat with less than a foot of elevation change between Borings B3 and B4. The surface at the boring locations was firm at the time of our site visit and the drill rig did not experience difficulty moving around the site. Each bid must be made on a form furnished by the City and must be accompanied by a bid bond, a cashier's check or certified check of an Iowa bank or a bank chartered under the laws of the United States, or a certified share draft drawn on a credit union in Iowa or chartered under the laws of the United States, in an amount equal to ten percent (10%) of the amount of the bid, made payable to the City Treasurer of the City of Sioux City, Iowa. The check or draft may be cashed by the City Treasurer as liquidated damages in the event the successful bidder fails to enter into a contract within the ten (10) days after notice of award and post bond satisfactory to the City ensuring the faithful fulfillment of the contract. The bidder shall make good faith efforts to subcontract to small business concerns owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals (Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs). Contractors will be required to submit information concerning the DBE, a description of the work to be performed by each named firm, and the dollar value of the contract However, the City reserves the right to reject any or all bids, re-advertise for new bids and to waive informalities that may be in the best interest of the City.
