Professional Services for Jennings Creek ParkThe City of Bowling Green is seeking professional services for elevated boardwalk and natural play design along Jennings Creek. The City of Bowling Green received Community Development Block Grant funds towards the design and construction of a linear park along the existing Jennings Creek Greenway. Situated between the Creekwood and Whispering Hills neighborhoods, the park will include natural play areas and outdoor educational space. Examples include natural rock boulders or wood/log balance beams. In addition, the existing wetland provides the opportunity for an educational boardwalk trail extension to facilitate environmental and watershed education along Jennings Creek. Signage will be installed to provide information on the ecosystem and environmental characteristics of the area. Opened to the public in spring 2021, the Moss Middle School/Jennings Creek Elementary Greenway connected local schools to an existing section of greenway, extending from Creekwood Avenue to Greenhill Street. With future greenway priorities, this entire Jennings Creek/Creekwood Greenway will connect to the larger greenways network, eventually creating a loop around the City. Upon its completion, the ideas for future growth of the space began to develop. Efforts are already taking place to develop adjoining land along the greenways path into a linear park. After the opening of the greenway in spring 2021, tornados ripped through this area the following December leaving the neighborhood distraught and, unfortunately, was the site of numerous fatalities. While the greenway space looks different and has lost many trees, the lives that were lost in the neighborhood and throughout the community are much greater. Our hope in developing this linear park will pay a small tribute to the lives lost and enhance the learning and play experience for the next generation of students in Bowling Green and Warren County. Knowing the excitement the schools would have for such a space, the needs that would be met by it, and the extraordinary learning experiences it would create, implementing this project would be a huge asset for our community As mentioned, the City of Bowling Green is seeking professional services to design an elevated boardwalk and natural play area along Jennings Creek. The consultant will be required to perform the following tasks at a minimum: Engineering Services shall include: a. Final design and cost estimate for improvements including: Elevated Boardwalk Natural Play Area b. Construction plan drawings, including specifications, permits as needed, as well as bid documents in preparation for bidding. c. Construction inspection services and reporting through project close out. The City of Bowling Green, Kentucky reserves the right to reject any and all proposals received, and to select that proposal which it determines to be in its best interest. The award of this RFQ will be made on the basis of the best evaluated offer as permitted in KRS 45A.365.
