Vecino Construction is the general contractor for the Washington School Project located at 205 South Locust, Pittsburg, KS 66762. The original school was constructed in 1887, was torn down and rebuilt in 1937, giving us the building that currently stands today. This facility operated as an elementary school until 1956 and has been vacant since that time. Construction of an additional new building, will provide much needed childcare to 216 children from infants to pre-k. The new building is a 5,790 SF wood framed structure with brick façade, consisting of 5 classrooms and numerous restrooms. Summary Project Description: This project involves two buildings on a roughly 1.9 acre lot south of the downtown area of Pittsburg, Kansas. The first building in the Southwest corner of the lot is an existing 14,150 square foot single-story with a basement that will be renovated to its historic time period. It contains nine classrooms, ages infant to 2.5-3.5, an auditorium, kitchen, and supporting offices and restrooms. The second building North of the existing building, is a newly constructed 5,790 square foot single-story building. This wood framed construction has a mansard roof, brick façade, accents of metal panel, and large window openings, all resembling the historic building. The new construction contains five classrooms, ages 3-5 years and pre-kindergarten, with supporting restrooms and storage areas off these classrooms. These buildings are connected by a newly constructed canopy that provides protection during vehicular drop-off and pick-up hours from the elements. .
