Construction of a new dispensary on the site of the former hospital. The Innu Matimekush Lac-John Nation Council, located on the Cote-Nord for and only accessible by plane or train, has launched a project to improve health care that meets the unique challenges of isolation and the socio-economic specificities of its population of nearly 1,000 residents. To this end, feasibility studies launched in 2021 led to a detailed plan to strengthen health care infrastructure. Scenario 2, choosing to build a new dispensary on the site of the former hospital (Lot 12), was selected for its potential to seamlessly integrate services into the future urban development of the community. This scenario also includes staff housing, aligned with the community's current and future needs. The site will be decontaminated before work begins. The new dispensary, planned for an area of 2,372,326 m2, will be equipped for clinical care, dentistry, administration, pharmacy, and community health services, with an estimated construction cost of 31,690,228. This ambitious project aims to substantially improve health infrastructure and living conditions in Matimekush Lac-John. More over, eight units for nurses and six studios for visitors are planned. Their cost is estimated at $5,800,000. TIMELINE: Detailed design is ongoing. Tender and construction schedules have not been finalized yet. It will take from twelve to 18 months to complete construction. Further update in summer, 2026.
