Renovation of a medical facility in Port Alberni, British Columbia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a medical facility.
This Request for Qualifications (RFPQ) is intended to establish a list of pre-qualified General Contractors who are eligible to submit competitive bids for the scope of work required for the replacement of the hospitals two-level hydraulic elevators (public and freight) at West Coast General Hospital, 3949 Port Alberni Highway, Port Alberni, BC. This project is to replace the hospital's two-level hydraulic elevators (public and freight), which are at the end of their life cycle, with new electric traction elevators including all required modifications and upgrades. At least one elevator must be always kept in operation, therefore work will require to be phased. Containment areas will be required at the elevator vestibules and in the clean laundry. Additional containment areas or the use of ECUs ("pop-up tents") will be required to complete the work. The Clean Laundry room will need to remain operational throughout construction. The contractor is responsible for the containment areas' layout and phasing as required to carry out the entire work. Ground floor slab demolition and hydrovac excavation will be required within the Clean Laundry room to allow the installation of a new sump pump pit and mechanical piping. Hydrovac work and placement/operation of hoses through the hospital will need to occur afterhours, and in coordination with site leadership. All required modifications to the existing hoistways, including structural, are the responsibility of the contractor and need to be conducted from the interior side of the shaft to avoid disruption to adjacent hospital departments and corridors.
