Description

Demolition, site work and new construction of a transportation facility in Arlington, Virginia. Design plans call for the construction of a transportation facility.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is in the very early stages of planning a new facility to replace the Terminal 1 gates used by Southwest and other airlines at Reagan National Airport. The authority is considering demolishing the nine gates at Terminal 1 -- formerly known as Terminal A -- in the round midcentury facility commonly referred to as the "the banjo" for its distinctive shape. A facility with new gates would be built east of the existing facility with access through the historic 1941 airport building. The Contractor shall provide design and support services, stakeholder coordination, program cost control, program scheduling, phasing and engineering for the Terminal 1 and South Area Redevelopment Program at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Anticipated projects include but are not limited to a new nine-gate concourse and apron, new terminal headhouse and various enabling and South Area Development projects. As of January 15, 2026, architect identified, construction to begin in Summer 2027.
