US-45 Culvert Replacements in Ontonagon County. The Ontonagon County Road Commission hereby notifies all respondents that it will affirmatively ensure that in any contract entered into pursuant to this advertisement, minority and women business enterprises will be afforded full opportunity to submit bids to this invitation and will not be discriminated against on the grounds of race, color, gender or national origin in consideration for an award. All contract work shall be completed and billed no later than October 25, 2024 Log of Project This project consists of removal of up to three 24" CMP culverts and replacement with a 24" diameter concrete culvert and replacement with a 72" diameter concrete culvert, backfill, and slope restoration. The project is located on US-45 in Control Section 66033 approximately 392 feet southeast of Dutch Road and 50 feet northwest of Dutch Road in Rockland Township, Ontonagon County. Exact locations shall be verified by the Contractor prior to performing the work and any discrepancies resolved with the Engineer. Description of Work The Contractor shall place erosion control measures, perform traffic control and setup the detour signing. At 392 feet southeast of Dutch Road remove the existing corrugated metal pipe culverts and end sections, place approximately 72 feet of proposed 72-inch Class E concrete culvert, and place concrete end sections with footings. At 50 feet northwest of Dutch Road remove the existing corrugated metal pipe culvert and end sections, place 80 feet of proposed 24-inch Class E concrete culvert, and place concrete end sections with footings. At each culvert place subgrade underdrains on each side of the proposed culvert extending to 5' beyond the outside of the aggregate shoulders along with underdrain outlet pipes and outlet endings. The Contractor shall adjust the proposed flow line elevations as needed to ensure drainage and to provide a minimum 2 feet of cover over the top of the culvert pipes under the shoulders and traffic lanes. Excavate trench to 1 foot below the bottom of the proposed culvert. Place culvert bedding to the culvert springpoint and then backfill with existing suitable material to the top of pipe as detailed. Any clay encountered within the excavation limits will be considered unsuitable and replaced with Granular Material Class III (or any excess suitable excavated material) to the top of the existing clay layer. From the top of the existing clay layer to the bottom of the subbase place the excavated material back in the trench unless determined to be unacceptable by the Engineer. Place the subbase, aggregate base, HMA, shoulder, Cl II, and perform slope restoration per the attached typical cross section. Traffic shall be maintained in accordance with the attached maintaining traffic typicals and the attached detour plans. The aggregate base will be ramped at the project limits until the paving is done. In the event the paving can not be completed by the weekend the contractor will bring the gravel up to HMA grade for the weekend at the contractor's expense. Perform slope restoration. If water is encountered within the excavation limits use 6A aggregate for the bottom 1 foot of the culvert bedding wrapping it with non-woven geotextile separator. The contractor shall coordinate their work with any utilities that may be located within the project area. The Contractor must remove, salvage, and replace any existing signs in conflict with the proposed construction.
