Truxtun Park's forested area has an extensive natural surface trail network that is widely used by residents and visitors. Over time, the trail use combined with weather impacts has caused substantial erosion to the shoreline bluffs adjacent to Spa Creek which has led to severe land loss and degradation, major harm to large canopy trees, and increasing sediment discharge into Spa Creek. This area of the park is a major environmental and recreational asset to the city but has received almost no investment in decades. The project is aimed at stabilizing and restoring the shoreline natural areas of the park in an effort to prevent further erosion, protect important tree canopy, and ensure that the trail network can continue to be accessible This project is included in the city’s fy 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program.
