DESCRIPTION OF THE IMPROVEMENTS The City of East Chicago, Indiana is upgrading and replacing aged, inoperable or deteriorated infrastructure. The contract is to upgrade and install new City-provided fire hydrant fixtures/assemblies and hydrant valves at three (3) locations within the City public right of ways. SCOPE OFWORK This scope of work under this contract consists of coordinating shut down of water services, exercising valves, installation, mobilization, locating, excavation, disposal of spoils/etc., labor, supervision, equipment, dewatering, traffic control, safety barriers, restoration including backfill with stone and restore with 4" black dirt, and sod, asphalt, concrete, or other related restoration and incidentals necessary to excavate in the City easement. Installation includes the following: remove existing fire hydrant units and install new fire hydrant fixtures/assemblies and hydrant valves at three (3) locations within the City of East Chicago, Indiana's right of ways, including the removing, replacing fire hydrant fixtures/assemblies, installing hydrant valves, piping, locating, exercising-opening, closing of hydrant valve, flushing of hydrant, coordinating shut down of water services to affected areas, insuring components are operational, restoration services of any and all excavation and disturbed areas, etc. as referenced above and as directed by the water utility. All debris/etc. when encountered during construction shall be disposed of in a legal manner to an off-site location. All removed fire hydrant fixtures/assemblies shall be turned over to the water utility, or as directed by supervisor. Laydown areas shall be approved by the East Chicago Department of Redevelopment prior to utilizing placement areas. All work shall be required to be performed in a workmanlike manner, and any and all work areas are to be maintained clean and cleared by the contractor on a daily basis. If additional costs are beyond the proposed scope of work referenced herein, it shall be inspected and approved by the East Chicago Department of Redevelopment prior to the additional work being performed.
