Renovation of an educational facility in Chicago, Illinois. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 27,000-square-foot, three-story above grade educational facility.
The renovation of Taft Hall is a major gut rehabilitation of an original Walter Netsch-designed 3-story 27,000 GSF classroom building located on UICs East Campus. This project includes the demolition of most of the building's interior to accommodate a redesigned floor plan that will feature new formal learning spaces with integrated multimedia, informal learning spaces/lounges, restrooms, and other miscellaneous support spaces. Once completed, this building will be UICs latest LEED Gold facility featuring rooftop solar PV, among many other sustainable and energy-conscious features. In addition to extensive architectural modifications, this project includes all new HVAC, plumbing, and electrical/data systems including new utility service feeds from nearby Addams Hall, a new 3-stop elevator, a new roof, and extensive masonry repairs to the existing exposed structure.
