Renovation of a mixed-use development in Nelson, British Columbia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a clubhouse / community center; and fitness / recreation center.

The Creston & District Community Complex is multi-use recreational facility located in Creston, British Columbia. It features two ice surfaces: a hockey rink and a curling rink which are served by one ammonia refrigeration plant. This project will replace several existing heat exchangers, pumps, and the three ammonia compressors to improve operational efficiency and extend the life of the plant. The two existing shell-and-tube chillers serving each arena will be replaced with two plate and frame chillers. The pumps associated with each chiller will be replaced to accommodate the requirements of the new heat exchangers. The existing shell-and-tube underfloor brine heater will be replaced with a new (like-for-like) replacement. The desuperheater and associated pump will be replaced like-for-like and integrated with two new storage tanks and associated domestic hot water piping to preheat Zamboni hot water. The three Mycom WB-series compressors will be replaced with new MII series compressors to improve plant efficiency and reduce electrical consumption. The Creston and Nelson ammonia plants are being updated in parallel. In addition to updating the control graphics at Creston to integrate new equipment, the controls at the Creston arena will be made uniform in function and appearance with the controls at the Creston arena. The Nelson & District Community Complex (NDCC) is a multi-use recreation facility located in Nelson, British Columbia. It features two ice surfaces—one at the NDCC and one at the adjacent Civic Arena—both of which are served by a shared ammonia refrigeration plant. This project will replace and consolidate the plant’s heat exchangers and associated pumps to improve operational efficiency and extend the life of the plant. The existing shell-and-tube chillers serving each arena are to be replaced with a single dual port plate and frame chiller, capable of servicing both the NDCC and Civic Arenas. Similarly, the two existing shell-and-tube underfloor condensers will be replaced with a single dual port plate and frame condenser serving both arenas. Finally, the snow melt desuperheater will also be replaced with a new heat exchanger. In addition to updating the control graphics at Nelson to integrate new equipment, the controls at the Nelson arena will be made uniform in function and appearance with the controls at the Creston arena.
