Renovation of a transportation facility in Orlando, Florida. Completed plans call for the renovation of a transportation facility.

https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/news/2024/10/01/international-executive-airport-land-use.html The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority is considering how to use its available property to draw businesses. Aviation Authority Board Chairman Tim Weisheyer and Board Member Carson Good considered the long-term future for Orlando Executive Airport and Orlando International Airport as a part of a on Sept. 30 meeting with CEO Kevin Thibault. Orlando International Airport has more than 1,300 acres available on the eastern part of its property and the executive airport recently signed a deal with a third fixed-base operator, New York-based Sky Harbour Group Corp. (NYSE: SKYH) to invest $40 million-plus to build on 20 acres at the airport near downtown. A fixed-base operator is granted the right by an airport authority to provide services such as fueling, parking and hangar space for general aviation users. Here's more on the airport authority's early conceptual thinking for the properties: Orlando International Airport Good sees the potential for the airport not only to use the East Airfield, but also to use other parts of the airport such as areas near runways. Already, the airport has eyed a portion of the East Airfield for vertiport research and development, but Good said the authority could consider drawing other companies such as semiconductors, defense or pharmaceutical firms that might need quick access to fly their goods. Potential users could include firms outside of the U.S., and Good said a benefit the airport has is the amount of land available compared to other airports like Atlanta and Miami. "Some pharmaceuticals have short lifespans once they are compounded and they don't need to be driving in traffic where an accident or something like that happens," Good said. He added that Boston Logan International Airport is an example of an airport with a strong pharmaceutical presence on site. In addition, the authority has considered how it can be a part of the space industry on the coast. Thibault currently is on the board of Space Florida and said that helps the airport know how it can be involved. "The more we can be in tune with what is going on, the more we can facilitate whatever that is," Thibault said. "[If a company is] looking to move a headquarters, they're looking to move a significant part of their operations, we want to be there to make that happen." Orlando International Airport is the seventh-busiest airport in the U.S., with 57.74 million passengers in 2023. Orlando Executive Airport Weisheyer said he expects the executive airport will start looking at how it can strike a balance between airport-facing and public-facing development along Colonial Drive. That comes as the nearby Orlando Fashion Square mall is expected to be redeveloped in the coming years. The authority owns several shopping center properties, including the Colonial Landing, the Colonial Promenade and the Shoppes at Baldwin Park. It also continues to add hangar space, with Sky Harbour expected to debut its first phase in early 2027. "We don't want to build everything inward to the airport with walls facing Highway 50, but at the same time, we don't want to go down the road of only serving the retail needs of Highway 50 and ignore the real opportunities that exist inside the airport," Weisheyer said. The authority would continue to maintain tenants at its properties as it considers how it wants to use them He added that while the concepts make sense, it will come down to developing a more detailed vision for both airports. "Now it's how much, when, who, where and how." The Orlando Executive Airport had roughly 189,000 aviation operations in 2023. Key takeaways: Airport-adjacent development: The authority is exploring the potential of attracting businesses that could benefit from proximity to the airports, such as companies in the semiconductor, defense, pharmaceutical and space industries. Multimodal access: The airports' land availability and the ability to provide quick access for businesses that need to transport goods by air, avoiding ground transportation delays, is an advantage. Balanced development: For Orlando Executive Airport, the authority aims to strike a balance between airport-facing and public-facing development along Colonial Drive, considering the upcoming redevelopment of Orlando Fashion Square mall. Retail and commercial opportunities: The authority owns several shopping center properties near Orlando Executive Airport and plans to maintain and potentially expand these commercial offerings while exploring aviation-related opportunities. ___________________________________ Interior Renovation at the Orlando International Airportpursuant to Section 287.055 Florida Statutes, and the Policies and Procedures of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (Aviation Authority), Notice is Hereby Given That Florida Licensed Design Build Contractors, as Defined by State Law (Proposers) Are Invited to Submit Statements of Qualifications for the Design and Construction of Bp-00500 Airsides 1 and 3 Interior Renovation (D/b) (Project) at the Orlando International Airport (Mco).
