Renovation of an office development in Johnson, Vermont. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a office development.

In the Fall of 2023, the Vermont Studio Center reached out to LCPC to inquire about using the Wolf Kahn Lodge studio as a floodplain mitigation and educational area. In winter of 2024, LCPC, VSC, and state partners from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, met to evaluate this site for a potential flood mitigation project. This project is located in the center of Johnson Village along the Gihon River, on a 0.5-acre parcel near the Pearl Street Bridge. In Spring of 2024, LCPC applied for funding through the Lamoille Basin Clean Water Service Provider to pursue preliminary design engineering for this site. The grant gave LCPC the means to manage and provide project coordination support. This scoping study will include a flood analysis and alternatives analysis to explore different options for the site. There is a fair amount of fill due to the site being the former site of the Town Garage. This preliminary design work will help plan for a potential floodplain restoration project. These efforts will improve the area to reestablish a natural stream channel to enhance flood water capacity and improve water quality. Design plans must consider the existing uses of adjacent parcels and the possibility of an educational pollinator garden. All materials and documents, whether preliminary or final, provided in the Scope of Work shall become the property of the Vermont Studio Center. $30,055 is available to complete the Scope of Work. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
