Pre-Design Services Required for Westside Prison Housing Unit HVAC for the Department of Corrections (DOC) at multiple DOC facilities in Western Washington. Refer to the DES website for amendments to the published public notice and/or RFQ. It is the responsibility of the interested firms to track and obtain amendments. Scope of Work This Request for Qualifications is for the purpose of selecting a consultant for Predesign Services for the project located at the facilities listed above. This scope of work includes predesign services only. Recent heat waves have highlighted the need for addressing the HVAC systems at multiple prisons. Standard construction practices have excluded the addition of cooling as part of the HVAC systems in most western Washington prison housing units, and without cooling capabilities, housing units are reaching temperatures greater than 80 degrees, which is the agreed-upon standard to be maintained. DOC has exceeded that threshold multiple times over the past 2 years, putting incarcerated and DOC staff at increased risk of heat-related illnesses. This Project is funded for Pre-Design Services only. DOC intends to request design and construction funding in future biennia. The state may at its discretion enter into negotiations with the next highly qualified firm determined as a result of this selection process; or conduct a new selection process for the procurement of services necessary to complete this project.
